Game Night: Forbidden Island

Happy Monday!  It’s a happy Monday here!  Cupcake is back to school after a fun spring break and Pumpkin and I are off to the first session of Stroller Strength!  I hope you had a great Easter!  Ours was very low key.  Pumpkin was a little under the weather this weekend, so we were house bound, though we did venture out for a walk yesterday after dinner.  Speaking of dinner I made a delicious leg of lamb, roasted potatoes and asparagus. And a pie.  Which I hope to share with you soon!

Anyway!  Hubby and I were supposed to go on a date Saturday, but a sick kid put a damper on that.  So we stayed in and had another game night.  We’ve been gaming a lot lately!  We got some new games recently.  Two player friendly ones!  Our new favorite is Forbidden Island

Game Night: Forbidden IslandForbidden Island is a cooperative game, (more…)

Marbled Easter Eggs

Easter is just 6 days away!  Are you ready?  Have your menu set?  Did you buy eggs, yet?  I’m looking forward to having hard boiled eggs on hand!  #iloveeggs  But first we’ll have to dye the eggs!  There are all sorts of ways to dye eggs, so don’t settle for solid colors!  Or well, you can do that, too, because they’re still pretty and it’s fun to do, but if you want to have a little more fun try these Marbled Easter Eggs!

Marbled Easter EggsWithout a lot of extra effort you get a lot of extra wow factor!  When you first take them out of the dye bath you can’t really tell the swirly effect they’re going to take on.

Marbled Easter EggsBut once you wipe the excess off you’ll see just how swirly they are!

So let’s make some!  You’ll need:

Hard boiled eggs
Liquid food coloring
Olive oil

Set aside a bowl or cup for each of the colors you want to make.  In each bowl add 1 cup of warm water, 1 tablespoon of vinegar and your food coloring (10-20 drops).  Then add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to each bowl and swirl.

Dip eggs in the water/color mixture, gently stirring them to ensure all sides of the eggs are covered.  Remove the eggs and pat dry.  The longer you submerge the eggs the darker the color will be.  Once the egg is dry you can dip it into another color.

Marbled Easter EggsThis really gives the eggs a fun marbled effect without a lot of extra effort!  Certainly you have the olive oil in your pantry, so why not give it a try!

#DisneySide @Home Celebration – Princess Party

I received free products in order to host a Disney Side @Home Celebration. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Last week we had some fun with friends by hosting a Disney Side @Home Celebration!  We had a preschool princess themed party and it was a ball!  If you follow me on Instagram you saw a sneak peek of our goodie bags!  Cupcake and Pumpkin had a blast putting them together.

Goodie Bags #DisneySide @Home Celebration We had an afternoon playdate, so we just served a few snacks and sweets.Dessert table #DisneySide @Home Celebration We had purple cupcakes with buttercream frosting and purple sprinkles.  And they were so yummy!

Snack table #DisneySide @Home Celebration Princess Goldfish, pretzels, chocolate covered strawberry marshmallows and fruit crisps

Princess Anna - #Disneyside @Home CelebrationThe girls loved wearing their princess dresses and tiaras, though that’s usual attire for Pumpkin.  Even the 2 boys who attended did a little dressing up as well.

#DisneySide @Home CelebrationThe girls couldn’t wait to check out their goodie bags!  They knew there was nail polish and lip gloss in there.

#DisneySide @Home CelebrationOf course the cupcakes were a big hit with princes and princesses alike.

#DisneySide @Home CelebrationPin the smile on the Mickey was a fun activity as well.  The kids were so good at it, too!

#DisneySide @Home CelebrationAnd we somehow managed to get a great picture of 9 of the 12 kids who were in attendance!  Seriously, this is like the best group picture in the history of ever!  They’re all looking and there are so many smiles!!

When you have 12 kids age 4 and under in your house it’s a bit chaotic, but it was so worth it to see the fun these kiddos had showing their Disney Side.  If you want to show your Disney Side, too, check out the fun over here.  You can learn about the parks, plan a Disney vacation, or make a Disney stick figure family!

Dinosaur Valentines

Cupcake has her Valentine’s Day party at school today.  And of course we went with a dinosaur theme. That girl loves dinosaurs (evidence here, here, here, here, and here).  I found these cute little plush dinosaurs at the dollar store and thought they were a lot more fun than the hard plastic ones that we have a million of, so I picked up a few of each kind.  I made a quick printable and Valentines were done!

Dinosaur Valentines - with FREE printable #valentines #dinosaur

I wrote To: and From: on the back and Cupcake wrote in the names.  Luckily I printed extra because sometimes she gets a little crazy with her letters.  I punched a hole in the corner and we attached the tags with a piece of ribbon.  Dinosaur Valentines - with FREE printable #valentines #dinosaur

I know they’re not fancy, but well, I’m not a graphic designer (I was hoping to find a heart shaped speech bubble).  If you’re not fancy either and would like to make some dinosaur Valentines here is the printable.  I cute 1/2″ off the top and bottom of the paper, then cut in half in both directions and they were ready to go!

They would also be great for the plastic dinosaurs, too.  You could attach them in the white space between the speech bubble and text.  Or slide both the tag and dinosaur into a cellophone bag.

I sure hope her friends like them!  I know Cupcake sure is loving the extra T. rex we picked up!

#slaydebt with The Queen of Free (Giveaway!!!!)

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter you’ve seen me post some sneak peeks about a book I’ve been reading.  It’s Slaying the Debt Dragon by Cherie Lowe, The Queen of Free.  It’s the story of how one family paid off $127K in debt!  Wow!  That is quite an undertaking.  And without having done it myself it’s hard to imagine, so it was great to take a peek into their journey.

10888479_10154974562500461_4011083279810163777_nEven if you don’t have $127K I’m sure you have some monthly payments you would like to live without, right?  Car payment? Student loans? Mortgage?   Wouldn’t you rather be saving that money toward something else?  Retirement, college funds, vacation?  Yeah, me, too.

I’ve always considered myself a bargain shopper.  I don’t like to pay full price for things, but the problem with that is sometimes I can’t pass up something I don’t need just because it’s on sale!  So when Cherie talked about how to pay off debt $0.19 at a time I’m all like “is she stalking me? Following me to Target?”

10532067_10155035314220461_5569261190767618103_oThat right there.  Hit the nail on the head!  It is so hard to say no!  To friends, to children, especially to yourself.  And that’s why I’m not going to Target this month.  😉

So are you ready to #slaydebt?  Well you’re in luck!  I have an extra copy of Slaying the Debt Dragon to give away!  Of course if you don’t win you can purchase the book on Amazon.  But I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

To enter leave me a comment letting me know what you would do with a little extra money!  I will draw a winner on 1/20/15.
