Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned grilled cheese sandwich? Me. I don’t. Well, they’re OK when there’s nothing else to eat, but cheese isn’t really my thing, at least on it’s own. I need a little something else with my cheese. That’s where Grown Up Grilled Cheese comes in. I’ve got two favorite ways of making a different kind of grilled cheese sandwich and this is one of them.
Looks good, right? Yeah, I know you want to make one for yourself. Here’s how.
- 1 tbsp butter
- 8 slices whole-grain bread
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 6 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 Granny Smith apple, cored and sliced
- 6 strips cooked bacon
- Butter the outsides of 4 slices of bread. Spread Dijon mustard over the other side then divide the cheese, apple slices and bacon among them. Top them with the other bread slices, buttering the outsides. Cook on a skillet or griddle over medium low heat until browned on each side and cheese is melted. Low and slow is the key to a great grilled cheese.
