Cupcake has recently become VERY interested in the mail. Every day she asks if there is something in the mailbox for her. Most days there isn’t, but one day a few weeks ago there was something just for her. Her very own Tacky Box. Tacky what you say? Tacky Box.
Tacky Box is a kit that includes a book and a special wooden box. The book, Margo’s (or Max’s) Magnificent Choice shows that your words and behavior are important. It shows children how to use kind words instead of tacky words. Tacky words should be put away inside the Tacky Box not to be used again.
Cupcake couldn’t wait to get started with her Tacky Box. We read the book right away and then found our instruction sheet in the box.
We were to decorate the box. Cupcake said right away that she wanted to paint it!
Check out that concentration face! Paint it we did.
We let the paint dry and momma cut some paper to fit the top and inside of her box. And she got to gluing.
And the final result!
Don’t let the fake smile fool you. She loves her Tacky Box. She immediately insisted that Oscar (the dog) put the first piece of paper in the Tacky Box. She wants him to stop “grr-ing”. So Oscar’s grr was the first entry. But it wasn’t long after that before Cupcake said a word we all agreed should be locked up in the Tacky Box and not to be said any more.
I love this concept. I was afraid she wouldn’t understand it since she’s only 3 (and a half), but she gets it! I was a little worried that some of the tacky words used in the book are new to her and that she would repeat them, but we haven’t had to add them to our Tacky Box, so I’m hoping that because Margo locked them up they will not be repeated by her.
It’s a cute story, with a craft, which we all know Cupcake LOVES, and a great life lesson for young kids. We’re loving our Tacky Box!
