Momma’s Birthday

Birthdays get less exciting as you get older, but I still really like my birthday.  Yesterday was my birthday.  It wasn’t too exciting, but it was just right.

I woke up a bit earlier than usual.  I ate my breakfast and caught up on my Google Reader while I waited for Cupcake to wake up.

She ate breakfast and we read about 10 books snuggled up on the couch.  I got the ironing board out and finally got around to ironing the bedskirt for the guest room.  I then managed to get the bedskirt on the bed by myself with a little help from my four legged friend.

And threw some laundry in.

Then we were off to swim lessons.  She did much better in the pool yesterday than she had done all week.  There was barely any fussing and even some smiles as she floated and kicked!

We came home, had leftover ravioli for lunch, played trains, unloaded the dishwasher, straightened up the kitchen a bit and got the mail.

It was a good trip to the mailbox!!  I received two birthday cards and a box!  Cupcake insisted I open the box right away.  She probably thought it was for her since lately they have been with her birthday and momma ordering some new diapers thanks to the BumGenius Buy 5, Get 1 Free sale!

Cupcake went down for her nap, I showered and did some more laundry.  Then it was “me” time.  I curled up on the couch with my new books!

Yeah, I was happy to lay on the couch reading a cookbook or two in my free time.  I can’t wait to start making some of these recipes!!!  I didn’t get around to reading the sewing book, yet, but I’m sure it won’t be long before those pages get flipped.

Post-nap Cupcake had a fruit and veggie smoothie (peaches, strawberries, sweet potatoes, yogurt, honey).  Apparently swimming makes her hungry (she had two helpings of ravioli at lunch!).  We snuggled up on the couch and watched some Curious George.

I was not going to cook dinner on my birthday!  And hubby and I had had a conversation earlier in the week about wanting some delivery (or carryout) pizza.  Darn that movie we watched that had a scene or two at Pizza Hut!!  But I thought it’d make a good birthday dinner.  So hubby got some carryout.

I hadn’t had Little Caesers in who knows how long!

And my requested dessert………..

Again, I can’t remember the last time I had a Dairy Queen cake!  It was everything I hoped it would be!!!

We shared the evening with friends (Thanks for coming Mike and Joanna!).  Cupcake reluctantly shared her toys with Sweety Petey.

I did some diaper stuffing and Cupcake was off to bed.  Hubs and I settled in in the cool basement to catch up on Mad Men (we’re 5 episodes behind!!), while being whined at by a dachshund because he’s not allowed to chew on his rawhide (which is his favorite basement past time).

And that is how a stay-at-home mom spends her weekday birthday (this one anyway).

She’s Two!!

What a fun filled day Cupcake and I had.  But first I need to give you a bit of a back story.  Cupcake doesn’t always go to sleep when we put her down at night.  Usually she brings all her toys in her bed plays awhile, then falls asleep.  Sometimes she ends up with a ball on her head.  Sometimes there are so many toys there’s no room for her.  Sometimes her blankie doesn’t make it back to the bed and she wakes up in the middle of the night in a panic when she can’t find it.  So I’ve gotten into the habit of checking on her before I go to bed.  So Monday night I am elbow deep in royal icing while I listen to shuffling sounds on the monitor, but nothing too alarming.  She did say the word diaper at some point and I panicked a little as she was wearing a nightgown for the first time and her nighttime cloth is hook and loop closure (which she can remove if she wants to) but I also knew her baby was in her bed with her and she likes to pretend to change baby’s diaper.

So I head up after two hours of cookie decorating and go straight to bed.  And then I realize I haven’t checked on Cupcake.  I peek into her room to find her passed out (so cute!) with a tub of coconut oil!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Ahhh!!!!!!!!  OK, so if you’ve never used coconut oil you may not know that when it gets warm it melts.  See above were she was wearing a nightgown?  Yeah, it was a warm night!  We use the oil as a diaper cream and moisturizer.  It was in the top drawer of her dresser.  The lid was not on!!!  It was on it’s side!!  It was after 10 o’clock. She was sleeping. I couldn’t really assess the situation, so I just removed the tub from her bed and hoped there wasn’t a disaster in the morning.

If only you could have heard my laugh when I saw that girl on her birthday morning!!!!!  The girl had the stringiest, greasiest hair I have ever seen!!!  Over half her sheet was covered in coconut oil!!  The two books she had in her bed were completely soggy!!  And her poor little penguin was slick!  Oh, I love that kid!  So please excuse the greasy hair in the first few pictures!

We had pancakes for breakfast!!

We opened a present!

We played with the new toy!

Someone needed a bath!!

We met our friends for bowling!

We had lunch and play time at Chic Fil A.  And someone took a long nap! (wish it was me, but I watched Gossip Girl and finished decorating the cookies)

We spoiled our dinner.

We went shoe shopping. We went to the camera shop (somehow my eyecup went missing and I was really starting to miss it!).  We had homemade pizza for dinner.

We played daddy jungle gym.

We went on a long trike ride.  We had a great, fun filled day.

My baby girl is 2!!!!
